For those who didn't already know, over the last few weeks, I worked on the Mark Ravenscraft for State Senate District 3 campaign. The primary election was Tuesday and we lost, getting only 35% of the vote. Why? Several reasons.

Mark Ravenscraft, candidate for State SD3 chatted with FPC members and others for more than an hour this evening. We'd like to thank him for his time, which is precious considering the primary is Tuesday. Here is a transcript of that chat. I cleaned up typos and re-ordered some of the comments to make it more readable.
[MarkR] Hello, hope everyone is doing well. This is Mark Ravenscraft, I'm one of the candidates in Senate District #3 for the Democratic Primary - would be happy to answer any of your questions...

FPC will have two chats today with SD3 candidates. At 4 p.m., we will be chatting with Citrus County Democrat Suzan Franks and at 7 p.m., we'll be talking with Tallahassee Democrat Mark Ravenscraft. To participate, simply go here, choose a screen name (pick one that will let me identify you, so I know who is participating) and hit enter chat. Then all you have to do is type your message in the field at the bottom of the page and hit "Say." That's it. This is a very simple chat interface -- we're using that to make things simple and easy and focused on the content, not the bells and whistles. We'll post a transcript later for those who can't make it.
The primary election is Tuesday and news coverage of this race has been sparse, so particularly if you live in this District, which spans from Tallahassee to the edge of Jacksonville all the way down to Ocala and Citrus County, this may be your best chance to get to know the candidates. Join us.

We now have to candidate chats confirmed for the next week. House District 43 Candidate Sophia Diaz-Fonseca will be joining us Saturday, June 2, at 9 a.m. to answer your questions about the upcoming election and related issues. Please prepare your questions and comments and join us at the FPC web site.
Also, don't forget, this Sunday, June 3, at 7 p.m., we will be hosting a chat with Senate District 3 Candidate Mark Ravenscraft. Have your questions ready and Mark will answer as many of them as time permits.
These chats are open to anyone, although it will be moderated to prevent inappropriate comments and questions, and you don't need to register to participate. We have contacted Suzan Franks and Patricia Lee Kittleman about joining us for chats as well, but haven't received any response yet.
In the past we have had chats or interviews with candidates such as Alex Sink, James Walker, Michael Calderin, Samm Simpson and others. FPC is breaking new ground in getting you, the voters of Florida, access to state leaders and we hope this is the beginning of a new tradition in politics in the Sunshine state.
(Full disclosure: I am working for the Ravenscraft campaign).

This Sunday, June 3, Florida Progressive Coalition will be hosting a chat with Senate District 3 Candidate Mark Ravenscraft at the FPC website. This is a difficult, but winnable race and this will be an opportunity for you -- the bloggers, activists and voters of the state of Florida to get up close and personal with one of the few Democrats running in the upcoming June special elections. Have your questions ready and Mark will answer as many of them as time permits. The chat is open to anyone, although it will be moderated to prevent inappropriate comments and questions, and you don't need to register to participate, just go to the FPC website on Sunday at 7 p.m.
We are attempting to negotiate other chat events with the other Democratic candidates and will let you know about them as soon as we can.

(Promoted in order to ask people to donate to their favorite campaign. As always, Florida Democrats need contributions. - promoted by quinnelk)
Here are the websites for the candidates in the special election for Senate District 3. The primary is on June 5 and the general election is June 26. We can win this race...
Both Democrats have PayPal accounts online now and snail-mail addresses for those who are interested in the old-fashioned way. The first reporting period ends today, so if you are going to contribute, today would be a good day to do it. The big donors are holding off until after the primary, so we need every cent you can spare at this point.
Mark T. Ravenscraft (D)
Suzan Franks (D)
I'm not going to link to the Republicans at this point, you can find them. I will have more on them later, though.

It seems like a given that the Senate District 3 Special Election is a toss-up between Charlie Dean and Dennis Baxley and the Democrats have no chance. This makes no sense. I understand why the Republicans think this, that's what they're supposed to think. They are supposed to be confident and believe they are going to win. Why are Democrats agreeing with them?
