There were several quotable homophobic comments during the brief one minute tirade during the Florida This Week show, including... "I think it's wrong to allow adoptions of children by gay and lesbian couples." "I think it sends a wrong message early to a child during formative years that's hard to overcome just by sitting down and talking to them and telling them it's okay." "I still think that there ought to be ways for us to provide a loving environment for children without sending a wrong message to them early, or a message that we have to sit down and try to explain some psychological damage or emotional damage or something later on in life." and quite possibly the best line... "I think that lesbianism and homosexuality is morally wrong and the law's supposed to discriminate sometimes." The special election was an orchestrated move to elect Rouson to the seat. Governor Charlie Crist appointed the term-limited representative, Frank Peterman, to the Department of Juvenile Justice, which triggered an election where his buddy, Darryl Rouson, was the best known candidate. Rouson switched parties and squeaked out a 750 vote victory in a 3-way race where only 12% of voters showed up to cast ballots in the primary. Remember how bad Congressman Wynn was in Maryland? We need to take Rouson out too. How bad is Rouson? Here's some more info... Although Rouson has been distributing a picture of him with Barack Obama, the fact is that, while his opponent was supporting Obama, Rouson gave $500 to Sam Brownback's ill-fated presidential run. (http://images.nictusa.com/cgi-bin/fecimg/?26940830840 ) He also gave $500 to the Charlie Crist for Governor campaign 2006; Crist's Democratic opponent was Rouson's own congressman, Jim Davis! (Source: http://election.dos.state.fl.us/campaign-finance/contrib.asp - Query 2002 General Election, Contributor Last Name: Rouson) Rouson was appointed to the Florida Taxation Budget and Reform Commission by the Republican Governor, a commission about which the St Petersburg Times wrote "The state's Taxation and Budget Reform Commission is acting as if it were the Jeb Bush Education Agenda Commission." The St Pete Times continued by saying...
"The commission voted last week to put a measure on the ballot that would sharply weaken the state's guarantees of church-state separation. What has that to do with the state's tax and budgetary policies — issues the commission is charged with acting on? Not much. The action was a political move designed to shield the former governor's school voucher programs from legal challenge, since the vouchers are often used to fund parochial school education. It took 17 votes from the 25-member commission to move the measure to the November ballot and 17 votes it received, including one "yea" vote from Darryl Rouson, whose current candidacy for a state legislative seat has the support of a group that promotes school vouchers. All Children Matter — Florida, an affiliate of a nationwide group of political action committees devoted to helping provoucher candidates get elected, sent out a series of three laudatory mailers for Rouson to District 55 voters at a cost of about $17,000. The mailers didn't even mention the voucher issue. Now Rouson, who won last month's hard-fought, three-way Democratic primary, is starting to return the favor." All Children Matter is led by Betsy DeVos, former Michigan Republican Party Chairwoman and wife of Dick DeVos, heir to the Amway fortune, who got his butt handed to him by Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm in her 2006 reelection campaign. (Lots of good info about Erik Prince and the DeVos connection at http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/054744.php This Rouson character is a bad apple and the people of district 55 need everyone's help to get rid of him. He is an egotistical self-promoter and we need to stop him before he gets entrenched in this seat and sets his eyes on a congressional one. http://www.mckenzie2008.com - contribute online, volunteer, forward info to friends, just do whatever it takes to spare the people of Florida from this wolf in sheep's clothing.
